Q: where does the name Wing Chun come from? A: a young nun called Yim Wing Chun first learnt the system from Ng Mui, after many years of training she taught her husband the system and he named the system after her "Wing Chun"
Q: what does Wing Chun mean? A: the name Wing Chun translates as "Beautiful Springtime"
Q: how old is the Wing Chun system? A: early records indicate that the Wing Chun system is approx. 450 years old which is relatively young in the martial arts world.
Q: do I need to be fit to practice Wing Chun? A: No the skill of Wing Chun requires steady practice to allow the practitioner to grow internal strength (Chi), to do this physical western training is not recommended.
Q: how long does it take to learn Wing Chun? A: it takes at least 4 to 5 years to gain a sufficient level of internal power (Yi Ging Ging) and understanding to learn Wing Chun but it takes us all a lifetime to master the system.
Q: how many sets are there in Wing Chun? A: there are 3 handsets called Sui Lim Tao, Chum Kil and Bui Tze, a wooden dummy set called "Mook Yang Jong", Butterfly Knives set called "Bart Cham Dao" and Pole form called "Luk Dim Boon Kwun.
Q: how often are the classes? A: we train twice a week every Monday and Wednesday from 7pm to 8.30pm.

Q: what age groups that practice Wing Chun? A: we have students both male and female ranging from the ages of 10 to 60 years old.
Q: what do I need to wear to come along to training? A: we training in normal casual loose fitting clothes and footwear (No Bare feet)
Q: how many students are in the classes? A: there is usually between 15 and 20 students in each of the classes including beginners, intermediate and advanced students.
Q: how long has Sifu been teaching Wing Chun? A: Sifu Mark Parry has been teaching Wing Chun since 1991.
Q: is Wing Chun full contact? A: Wing Chun is designed to be a very effective self defence martial art but students practicing in the club learn in a safe and controlled environment with emphasis on the class being a laboratory to enable one to practice softly to gain the skills required if ever required in real life.
Q: is there a uniform? A: yes once a student decides if they want to become a member of the club then a Polo shirt is issued.
